Thanksgiving Already?!

Wow...this year has gone by ridiculously fast! I seriously cannot believe it. Well, my plans for Thanksgiving are to head home to Ohio on Wednesday night. I'm actually disappointed because I didn't realize until after I bought my plane ticket that my street is actually where they blow up the balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York! In fact, they are already setting up bleachers and putting up "no parking" signs all over my neighborhood. I wish I'd planned to at least stay through Wednesday night so I could see them blowing up the balloons! Oh well. I am flying home on Wednesday night and staying with my grandparents, then driving down on Thursday morning to spend the rest of my Thanksgiving weekend at my house. I'm looking forward to it!

On Friday, I'm going to head out early to do a little shopping and then I'm going to go play some flag football with some high school friends. Apparently it's our 10th year (thank Jon)!! I can't believe that there's anything in my life I've been doing for 10 years, it's just crazy! It should be fun though.

Well, I haven't been doing such a great job of writing lately, but that's partly because I haven't been doing too much. In fact, I've been kinda sick this past week. Today, I'm sitting around watching football and learning how to solve a Rubik's cube (yes, you read that right). Next time you see my, I should be able to do it in about 5 minutes! I hope.

Alright, with that unbelievable nerdy statement, I will sign off. Oh, except I wanted to recommend a book I just finished reading. It's called Eat, Pray, Love and was an amazing book. I highly recommend it!

Ahhh...the people of New York City

New York has some interesting characters....

Take for example the lady on the subway today who was describing how her cats can tell time (she was sure because they always seemed to hide around the time that she told her friend she was going to take them to the vet).

Or...the man at the bar the other night who sat next to my friend Kiernan and I and drew pictures of us as crocodiles on bar napkins and gave them to us. I keep meaning to scan my picture of myself as a croc, but I haven't had time! And, it turns out that this particular New York crazy (who looked like an older version of Adam Sandler and was very socially awkward) is actually a fairly well-known artist. I checked out the website he wrote on the napkin to see that he actually sells paintings of crocodiles for up to $2,500 each and paints crocodiles exclusively. I actually found the reasons for Robert S. Greenberg's crocodiles quite interesting:

Click here to read it: Why Crocodiles?

He invited me to go to a gallery opening in a few weeks, and even though he appears to be a real, talented artist, I'll probably skip it. Still, NYC does have some interesting characters!

Fun New York Stories

New York is a funny place. Things happen here that just simply wouldn’t happen anywhere else (or to anyone else for that matter!). Take for example yesterday morning at 5am. I have been meeting my roommate Susie to run a couple of days a week recently. We typically meet at 6am at either 96th or 90th and Central Park West. So, in order to have energy to run, I have been getting up at 5am to eat a small meal, then going back to bed until 5:45. Lately, my breakfast of choice has been a small box of raisins.

Ok, so you can’t judge me on this.

On Friday morning, I had to go to the bathroom and I decided that in order to minimize the time I had to be awake at 5am, I would eat my raisins WHILE using the bathroom. So as I am eating my raisins and…you know…and I realize (in the dark) that I had dropped 2 of the raisins. My roommate has told me that we need to be careful about leaving food around because rodents and animals from the park tend to find their way to the apartment buildings. So after I finished eating and going to the bathroom, I turned on the light to look for the raisins I had dropped. I spotted one of them and threw it in the trash. Then, I spotted the other, but as I bent over in my 5am haze and reached it over to pick it up, I realized that it was actually a raisin-sized COCKROACH!!! (highlight if you can't see the word there). Obviously I SCREAMED as loud as I could and completely scared my roommate.

I mean what are the chances that right where I thought I dropped a raisin I find a cockroach? It’s just so unlikely. The good news is that I had no trouble waking up for my run after a scare like that!!
